Jesus, a great teacher?
Jesus, a great teacher? As in Mohammed or Buddah? I used to think so. And I didn’t appreciate these “Jesus people” who would try to convince me that he was much more .... even a Savior who had the power to commit me to an everlasting life or to everlasting torment. Forget it! I was quite comfortable enough as I was, even though my beliefs were far from defined. That is until I really gave it serious thought.
No! I couldn’t have been right. When I was forced to look at the situation, I had to admit that Jesus couldn’t have been a great teacher ... period! He was either what he claimed to be, the Son of God and the only way that anyone could come to God, or he had to be some kind of crazy man under illusions of grandeur. But he was not just a great teacher.
You could call him a rascal or worse. You could hate him, spit on him, call him a demon, and kill him like the Romans and Jewish leaders did, or you could consider that what he said was absolutely true! That indeed, he came from his father God "to seek and to save what was lost."
The Bible says, “the wages of sin is death.” My own conscience tells me that I am far from perfect. In other words, I am a sinner! The Bible says it this way, “There is no one righteous, not even one.” That’s self-evident. But here’s where Jesus comes in: “but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Put another way, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
So the question arises, “How do I get this gift?” And the Bible nicely gives us the answer, “That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved..”
Remember, it was Jesus who said, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” You might want to remember this quote from the Bible: “for, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
Think it over. I’m glad I did!
