My name is Mary Doorey Myers. I was born in Amsterdam, NY. My dad worked for GE when I was little, and was transferred frequently, so I lived in Amsterdam, NY, Cocoa, FL, and West Chester, PA. I graduated from Bishop Shanahan High School in West Chester, PA and from West Chester State College with a B.S. in Elementary Education.
I'm currently employed by the South Lewis Central Schools system. I teach first grade in the Port Leyden Elementary School in Port Leyden, NY.
This is my first grade class for 2000-2001.
I started collecting postcards in the mid-seventies, mainly to give myself something to collect when accompanying my husband, Larry, to postcard shows. I started out collecting Manzier cats "doing people things". I then discovered my first fairy tale and nursery rhyme cards and that's been my collecting interest ever since. It seemed to be a natural area for me to collect since I was teaching kindergarten at the time. Some of the cards are still "animals doing people things".
Some of my favorite cards are the signed artist cards by M. Sowerby, D. Carleton Smyth, Aina Stenberg, Willy Schermelé, M.L. Kirk, Hazel Singer, Flora White, Kirchbach (K.), Mabel Lucie Attwell, G.G. Drayton, Agnes Richardson, Will Kidd, Clara Burd, Katharine Gassaway, Eugenie Richards, H. Willebeek Le Mair, Hilda T. Miller, Margret Boriss, Maja Synnergren, Ethel Parkinson, HGC Marsh Lambert, and Jean D. Howe. Some favorite publishers are Tuck, Charles Scribner's Sons, PFB, Julius Bien & Co., and A&C Black, Ltd.
